My dog loves flowers so much... but I have some calle lilies just around the flowerbeds. No hammocks, though, I suffer from vertigo and I can't stand moving things or even climbing on a ladder...oh, yes I have a huge boungavillea just in front of the kitchen door...really nice, huh?

Ops, you're right "metaphor", my bad! Now I understood what you meant! Anyway, "if I never do exercises, I will forget everything I know", as we'd say in Italy, are "blessed words"! I totally agree with you and I'm noticing that every day more!

I believe that Gio was referring to the fact that marcosocio, like other students, is compelled to continue his English studies in order not to lose the acquired competence, as requested by several certifications which have a limited lifespan (Toefl, Ielts). It's like to say that if you don't take care of your garden it will surely become a wood, with leaves and weeds and grass that make it untidy and ugly. I can't think of any Italian proverb with the same meaning, but I'm sure it exists.

However "tilled " means "coltivato" and I suppose "untilled " means " incolto "; "wood " means in this case " bosco "
giardino incolto = bosco/foresta .
The online bab.la dictionary was of big help...

She's not wrong. The DELF, as the FCE, is valid forever. I know that the IELTS expires every 2 years and so you are forced not to forget what you have learnt, which is also a positive thing.
