ROMANTICISM
Romanticism is a movement in art and literature in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in revolt against the Neoclassicism of the previous centuries. It was born in German but it was presented also in England. In German romanticism was more philosophical, instead in England was more important the poetry.
For the Romantics expression was in art, music, poetry, drama, literature and philosophy.
The romanticism was a reaction against enlightenment because enlightenment is the expression of the reason.

ENGLISH ROMANTICISM
The English romanticism goes from French revolution and coronation of Queen Victoria. English Romanticism was not a unified movement but there were some shades.
In the English romanticism was not important the mind, but the subjectivity and the irrational part of human.
Apart from the poet William Blake, in English literature there were two great generations of poet. These writers never formed a movement but they shared a feeling that they were giving voice to a period of political, social and intellectual change.

FEATURES OF ROMANTICISM
The features of romanticism is the exaltation of countrylife because the farmers represent the past and person not corruption by the civilisation. The farmers represent the old England, the innocence and the childhood. There is an accent on the individual, life is an opportunity to express my shelf and life has to be lived fully. There is also a cult of “exotic”, the interest for what is different and for different country.
