Novels in English
Hi guys, I think I might start reading some novels in their original language.
When I saw in a bookshop Tender is the Night by Francis Scott Fitzgerald I immediately bought it, because some time ago I really enjoyed The great Gatsby (in Italian), but I have realized that his works in original language don't fit for a beginner like me.
So, have you got any suggestions? (not Harry Potter please!

I read only 2 novels in English:
- Dracula by Bram Stoker: it is structured as a collection of letters and diary pages written by the characters. I found it boring and not frigthening as I expected.
- Gulliver's travels by Johnathan Swift: it's a wonderful book. It isn't a book for children, as usually thought. On the opposite it is a pessimistic analysis of human nature and society, both in their irrational and rational(istic) sides. Swift's style is plain and clear and this makes his considerations more convincing and realistic. After the reading of this book you'll se men and women around you with different eyes...

I read "The Hobbit" and I tought it was a little boring..it was (expecially in the beginning) too childish.. However I do not remember "the Silmarillion" was so difficoult (in italian!
) and if you like the genre I think it would be a more interesting reading..

A lot of Tolkien's novels have been written for children.
Now, i believe that the gender is not for everyone, and you have to like it, otherwise it can look a bit more than boring.
Anyway, I believe that "The hobbit" is, at the same time, a very good novel and not too difficult.

Defoe's Moll Flanders, Richardson's Pamela, or if you'd prefer something more ''spicy'' (whilst definitively ''a classic''), have a look at Cleland's Fanny Hill.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle, The Adventures of Hucklberry Finn, by Mark Twain and Fightclub, by Chuck Palahniuk. I've first read them in Italian, but in English they are a lot better.
