CROSSING THE CHANNEL
- Let's sit here. It's too windy outside.
- How long does it take to get to Dover?
-A couple of hours, but if depends on the weather. We should land about 11.30.
- There aren't many people on the on the boat, today.
- It's always like this in October. The tourist season is already over.
- And then a lot of people prefer to travel by plane.
- I generally take the plane my self when I go to France. But i'm only coming from Calais, so it was more convenient to take the ferryboat.
- Have you been to France on business, Mr Milford?
- Hot exactly. I went to see a friend of mine who lives in Lille.
- What time did you leave Lille this morning?
- I left at a quarter past eight and arrived at Calais just in time for the croissing...Do you oftnen travel abroad, Mr. Jordan?
- Yes, very often. Next week, for instance, I have to leave for Austria.
- Why don't we go to the duty-free shop to byy some cigarettes and whisky= They cost much less here.
-Oh, yes! I want to bub a ligter.
- I bought one at a tobacconist's in Regent Street last month.
- What make is it?
- It's a Dunhill.
- How much did you pay for it?
- Thirty-five pounds. But you can save quite a bit if you get it here.
- Do you think I'll have to declare the lighter at the Customs?
- It's not necessary for so little.
- You're experienced in Customs matters, aren't you?
- Well, it's part of my job. My firm trades mostly with foreign countries.
- Do you have to depend on imports for raw materials?
- Only for aluminium.
- Where do you buy it?
- In Germany. A large consignment should reach us in the next few days.

IN GLASGOW ON BUSINESS
- Come in, Mr. Clifford. I was waiting for you.
- Good moorning, Mr. Maclaine.
- Nothing special.
- So you've come over to see our new Soundscreen insulating material, haven't you?
- Yes, I saw it adbertised in the last issue of "the Bulding Report".
- Actually it's the last word in insulators. It already sells well on various markets.
- To whant extent does Soundscreen reduce noise?
- According to our tests, it reduces noise and vibrations by 80 %. That's why the demand for Soundscreen is so great.
- How is it possible?
- Owing to its chemical properties.
- Does it cost much more than the ofther insulators you produce?
- About 50 % more. We can't sell it at a lower price, but I assure you it's worth every penny.
- Thank you for showing me you factory. It was very interesting.
- Do you prefer Soundscreen or the other insulating materials?
- Well, I think we'll pass you an order for Soundscreen. It suits us better for the blocks we're building at St.Albans.
- I suggest you order soon, however. At present, many builders are buying Soundscreen from us and we can't supply straight from stock.
- I'll confirm the order next week, as soon as I get back to London.
- This is one of the oldest pubs in Glasgow.
- It's very nice indeed... By the may, I must thank you for the magazine you lent me this morning.
- Have vou read the article yet?
- Yes, it confirmed what you told me about the chemical properties of the new material.
- It took us time and money to develop it. It's the result of long research and hard testing. But now we're quite satisfied with it.

In the first dialogue there are Mr Milford and Mr Jordan, that are on the train to Dover. Mr Milford asks how many hours it takes to arrive there,Mr Jordan answers they should land about 11.30. Mr Jordan likes to travel. In fact, he travels a lot. Mr Milfor purposes to buy some cigarettes and whisky, because they are cheap there. Mr Jordan wants to buy a lighter, but he is uncertain if show it to the Customs. In Mr Milford's opinion, it doesn't matter to.

Spero vada bene!

In the second dialogue Mr Cliffod and Mr Maclaine meet each other to talk about a material, the Soundscreen insulating, that Mr Clifford saw in a newspaper, "The Building Report". The Soundscreen insulating material reduces noise and vibrations by 80%, thanks to his chemical properties. Mr Clifford wants to buy this product and he is going to order it soon.

Non so se ho capito quello che dovevi fare, spero vada bene :)
